Wentworth Archives

The Wentworth Archives was established by the Alumni Library in 1986 to collect, describe and preserve the administrative and historically valuable records of the Institute. The Archives also maintains the official records of the engineering technology divisions of ASEE and Fenway Libraries Online,Inc. (FLO).

The Archives’ collections provide information on the Institute’s teaching, faculty, administrators, alumni, campus buildings and development; and student life. All permanent records received by the Wentworth Archives are maintained in collections according to the original order of their creator whether they were a college office or department, a faculty member, an association or a private individual. Please consult the Wentworth Archives' Policy and Procedures for details about accessing the collections. The Archives is located in Rooms 207M, 208 M, 209M and 417 on the Mezzanine and fourth floors of Beatty Hall.

Institutional Records

Organized by originating department or office, these collections include the records of the Principal, President, Provost, annual reports, policies and procedures, correspondence, campus plans, meeting minutes, and other records that document the development and functioning of the Institute since its founding in 1904.

Publications

All publications issued by the Institute are retained by the Archives. These include the campus newspaper, WENITECH and SPECTRUM, the FACTBOOK, yearbooks, catalogs, departmental newsletters, the alumni magazine, and a wide variety of Institute reports.

Photographs and Scrapbooks

The photograph collection contains images taken by staff and private photographers and publicity services that document the campus buildings and development, student life, classroom instruction, faculty, staff, alumni and special campus events and activities. The scrapbooks document the history of the Institute from 1911 to 1933.

Memorabilia Collection

Individual items of historical value such as posters, brochures, gifts, clippings, flags and programs comprise the collection.

Manuscript Collections

The personal papers of administrators, faculty, alumni, and Arioch Wentworth may contain correspondence, manuscripts of publications and teaching materials. Notable collections are the official records of the engineering technology divisions, ETD, ETC and ETLI of ASEE and Fenway Libraries Online, Inc.

Pattern Collection

The Archives contains a collection of over 500 wooden pattern pieces and large working models for machinery made by students in the pattern making courses at Wentworth in the early years of the Institute. The pattern collection contains single and multiple part patterns, built-up patterns, core boxes and large wooden models. One of these models is an eight-foot model of the right hand drive of a 4-6-2 Pacific type locomotive built of seventy-one wooden parts. Many of the large models, including the locomotive, were built to be run by an electric motor.
